But people are people, and none of us are the same. I agree it's a poor excuse over actually learning something about using your computer and maintaining it. I do understand that such software is a crutch, and for some users, can be said to encourage reckless behavior online and believe that such software will always save their bacon. It does ask for a donation, but you are under no obligation to donate before the app will work. For them, MalwareBytes for Mac, (formerly AdwareMedic) is a huge time saver, and does the work of removing adware for you in just a few minutes for free. Not every person who uses a computer is also a wiz at maintaining one. Most people don't, or are afraid to dig into their drive like that. Yes, a person can remove adware manually if you have the time and inclination to spend possibly hours searching through system folders looking for each and every possible form of adware. They were good at the time the page was created, and then last updated, but is at this time very much out of date. It's the main reason Apple's instructions are currently insufficient. The makers of adware are also constantly changing the names of the files they install, and where they get installed on your drive. It will probably be the same name for them all. In these cases, the random name will be where the parenthesis are. T o find these, you have to look for things in your launch agents folder that look like. Last time I had to do this the word was "Whigmeerlie". They will have a random word (sometimes a nonsense word) that they will use in all their files. Vsearch tends to hide its files by changing their name so you don't notice them. You may also need a password to delete some of these files. You have to search manually, because the search bar will not always bring anything up. I also found in my computer's launch agents folder with the word spigot.When I googled its name it came up as known malware. You should search the following folders for any files that say zeobit, genio, Mackeeper, or vsearch. This will start up only the software necessary to run your macbook. So first, to stop it, you can safe boot your computer by shutting down, then turn it back on holding the shift key. I'll try to help you remove it manually if you don't want to trust any downloads. You don't need to download anything to do it. I've removed Mackeeper from my computer twice.
